Next Week’s Sermon: October 24/25

Our Righteousness / It seems like we live our lives in judgment. From reality competition shows to social media echo chambers to the disappointment expressed by a loved one, our works are on full display…and they never seem to be enough to make us righteous. Jesus tells a story of a Pharisee whose works look flawless and a tax collector who has nothing to offer God except his sin. And the tax collector is declared righteous by God! This righteousness comes through the atoning sacrifice of Jesus. This righteousness is through faith alone, apart from works. This righteousness is yours in Jesus! As we remember and celebrate the Reformation and its impact, we are encouraged by these words: “For we hold that one is justified by faith apart from works of the law.” (Romans 3:28) To prepare for worship, read Luke 18:9-14.
